We are living in crazy times. It seems that world changing events, natural disasters and economic upheaval are occurring on a daily basis. In times like these it’s hard not to wonder what God is up to and what His will is for our lives. Through His word He tells us that we were ordained before the foundations of the world to live in this specific period of history. In the verse above we see that Esther was ordained by God to be in the palace for that time in history to help save her people the Jews. And like Esther, God has placed us in this unique moment “for such a time as this” to stand up for righteousness and truth, to pray for our nation, and to be a witness for him amidst a chaotic world. Though it may be overwhelming at times God has ordained us for living in these exciting and uncertain times, so lets do everything we can to reach the world and be a light to the lost.

Russell Brownley has been a long time friend of Walking On Water and is one of the main filmers and editors for our latest release Walking On Water. From a young age Russell has been captivated by surfing and traveling. Through his gift of film-making he has been able to make his dreams a reality by traveling to many surfing nations and capturing the sport of surfing through film for many non-profit organizations. Four years ago Russell made a documentary on the aftermath of the Sri Lanka tsunami. Through this documentary he met Bryan Jennings and from there Russell has been helping with Walking On Water films. He has co-directed the Bethany Hamilton Documentary, Heart of a Soul Surfer and has spent much of the last three years filming and editing Walking On Water.

As he states, “Walking On Water has been a huge blessing for me because I have been able to travel and make a film that is reaching out to surfers all around the world. Through this film many people are hearing the Gospel message of Jesus Christ in ways I could have never imagined.” Just recently Russell premiered the film in Bangladesh and continues to make impacting films that God will use to reach the farthest nations of the world. In early October videographer Russell Brownley was on a trip to Bangladesh with surf ministry Surfing the Nations. Each year Surfing the Nations travels to Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh to bring surf boards and gear for the kids, to teach swimming, provide medical relief for the street kids in the area, and put on a surf and skateboard contest for the local boys and girls.

Bangladesh is a Muslim nation and the most densely populated country in the world. A few days after the Muslim holiday Ramadan had ended one million people flocked to the beach. Founder of Surfing the Nations, Tom Bauer, looked over to Russell and said, “What do you think about showing Walking On Water on the beach for everyone to see?” With little time to plan but an amazing opportunity, they rented all the equipment necessary to show the film.

Over 500 people gathered around the screen to watch the film and although they could not understand English they were enamored by the beautiful footage from all around the world, and Tyler’s hair. The surf club there sponsored the showing which happens to be the boys that Surfing the Nations has been working with and they were so stoked to watch the film. On October 10th St. Andrews Presbyterian Church hosted an amazing premiere of Walking On Water at their brand new campus in Newport Beach, CA. The evening started off with a live DJ performance and skateboard demonstration by Jesse Dillaha and Jason Gallagher of Florida based Today’s Skateboards and professional skateboarder Chad Tim Tim. Jason blew minds and broke a new record by catching air over 13 people! After the skate demo the crowd was treated to a free dinner and then a standing room only premiere of Walking On Water. After the film Bryan Jennings presented the gospel and many young people came forward to make decisions for Christ. The night was a huge success and we want to extend a special thank you to all the people at St. Andrews who worked hard to make the event possible.

Over the weekend of October 18th and 19th Walking On Water did two premieres on the Central Coast of California. On Saturday, November 18th Walking On Water in partnership with Esteem Surf Shop and Campus Crusade For Christ hosted a premiere on the campus of California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA. The evening opened with a concert with Tom Curren and his drummer Marco Wood and then Bryan Jennings closed it out with a powerful Gospel presentation. It was a great opportunity to be able to present the gospel on a university campus. After the Cal Poly premiere the crew headed up on Sunday the 19th to Monterey for a premiere at Shoreline Community Church. After the film Mike Doyle shared the Gospel and over a dozen people prayed to receive Christ. We would like to thank Ryan and Judy Kelly, Dave Hopkins, David Pritchard and all the people who helped us bring the film to Central California.
