Christian Surfers Huntington Beach with Brian Edwards and Stan Bryson. Four years ago Walking On Water had a desire to do an outreach at the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, CA. Huntington Beach is known as “Surf City USA” and is home to fun beach breaks and thousands of surfers. Being such a huge surf town we wanted to see surfers come to know Christ. Having started the One4One DVD Giveaway Campaign, we thought passing out The Outsiders DVDs would be a perfect way to share the Gospel with the crowd.. Around this time Brian Edwards was approached by a fellow surfer about starting a Christian Surfers Chapter in Huntington Beach. At the same time Stan Bryson had a desire to start a Christian Surfers chapter in the same area and had contacted Christian Surfers USA Headquarters about the process. Shortly thereafter the Christian Surfers Huntington Beach chapter was launched.

The Huntington Beach chapter has been running now for three years. Each year Brian Edwards and Stan Bryson have partnered up with Walking On Water to put on the US Open Outreach. Over the past two years we have rented a booth in the festival area decorated with surf boards, a surf film playing in the background and a DJ spinning music for the crowd. Many of the members and leaders of CS Huntington Beach come to pass out thousands of DVDs to the crowd and through this are able to invite people to their chapter meetings and events. United ’08-US Open of Surfing Outreach & Huntington Beach Premiere

The US Open is the largest surf contest in the world and is held at the Huntington Beach Pier every year. On July 26th, Walking On Water partnered with Christian Surfers Huntington Beach and Orange County churches for United ’08. For the fourth consecutive year Walking On Water, along with over 100 volunteers passed out 10,000 copies the The Seven Mile Miracle to the US Open crowd. In addition we had a 20’x20’ booth in the festival area showing Christian surf films, a live DJ, couches, free Christian resources and volunteers available for prayer. Later that evening we hosted a premiere of Walking On Water at the Huntington Beach Library to a crowd of 400 people. Bethany Hamilton made a guest appearance and shared her testimony. The film was well received and many people made decisions for Christ. We gave two surf boards away along with Truth, Soul Armour gear. It was a perfect ending to the United ’08 Outreach.

Walking On Water Dream Surf Camps

This summer marks our 12th year of Walking On Water Surf Camps. We are encouraged and thankful for what we saw the Lord do this summer. The first week of camp was filled with 67 enthusiastic young campers ready to surf and meet some of their surfing heroes. Damien Hobgood and Bethany Hamilton visited camp to surf with the campers, take pictures, and sign posters. Not only was the surfing great, but the Lord was moving on the hearts of the young campers. One mother wrote in about her son’s experience.

“Our son has been in a Christian school environment since pre-school and he has always been unnerved and frightened by Revelation and discussion regarding the Apocalypse, and has had shared anxiety regarding his own death and his fear that he doesn’t rise to Christ’s standard (despite our reassurance and support). He told me that he no longer fears death, and the only worry that he still has is for the pain of those left behind. Michael was incredibly impressed by Bethany Hamilton and shared that she was ‘probably the nicest person that I’ve ever met.’ He was blown away by her. Five days may seem like a short period of time, but the moments over those days, were clearly used with a purpose and left a profound impression. My husband and I will continue to nourish the impression that you left with our son.”

The second week we had 28 high school students from all over the US who came to surf for the week but left with a heartfelt experience with Jesus. It was a fun week of waves, sun and a great surf session with surfing legend Skip Frye. Friday morning our campers teamed up with a group of inner city kids from downtown San Diego. Our campers taught the inner city kids how to surf and braved the La Jolla Shores waves together with them. It was a great opportunity for our campers to serve others and put their faith into practice. We pray that the love and enthusiasm they share at camp will be carried into their congregations, homes and communities. We believe that great things will come from the hearts that were forever changed this summer at the Walking On Water Dream Surf Camps. 2008 Fundraising Drive

It has been four months since we have launched our Fundraising Campaign and 315 spots have been filled. Our goal through this Fundraising Drive is to reach 1,000 supporters who will commit to giving a recurring monthly donation of $25. By becoming a monthly supporter for just $25 per month, Walking On Water will be able to continue the world evangelistic tour of our current film Walking On Water, translate our current film into many different languages, and continue the Walking On Water surf camps. The first 300 supporters who sign up for the $25 monthly donation will receive a Walking On Water movie poster signed by three- time world champion Tom Curren, Fuel TV host Matt Beacham, and “super- grom” from our latest movie Tyler Hallen. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:11 It is incredible as believers to see God’s glory revealed through His creation. The universe was created to bring praise and glory to Him. It is even prevalent through the life of Jesus Christ. Through the obedience of Christ he was brought to ever-increasing glory. There is no way for us to add to the glory He already has, but rather we are revealing His glory to the world through our actions. As believers we are called to bring glory to God both by what we say and what we do, and as much as we strive to do this, it is only by God’s strength in us that He is glorified. God has written this story, created us with a purpose and invites us on this adventure with Him. Invest in this eternal story.
