For The 2010 Walking on Water Dream Surf Camps we will be camping overlooking the beach on Camp Pendleton in San Onofre, California. Students will be sleeping in luxury 12X16 Coleman WeatherTec Cabin Tents. There will be 5 students and one camp counselor in each spacious tent. (Bringing a Cot or blow up bed is recommended) USMC Camp Pendleton at San Onofre, California is a military R&R beach mostly used by retired military and families of active duty military. We set up a full service camp site complete with a 20x20 enclosed kitchen, eating area, protected meeting area, games and activity area, tent villages, equipment storage and more. Click here for accomodation photos..
Over the years we have been blessed with special appearances by Tom Curren, Bethany
Hamilton, Damien Hobgood, CJ Hobgood, Matt Beacham, and other professional surfers.
There is a good chance some of them will come this summer depending on their busy schedules.
The ocean is usually warm enough to simply wear a bathing suit. However we
do recommend that you bring a wetsuit if possible. We do have some wetsuits
that you can use at no additional cost as long as we have your size. The use
of a beginner surfboard is also included in the cost of camp. Our surfboards
are soft beginner boards that are great for learning. Please do not bring
your own surfboard if you are a beginner. Hard surfboards are not good and/or
safe for learning. If you are a intermediate or advanced surfer please bring
your own surfboard.
We take safety very seriously at our surf camps. Lifeguards monitor the beaches
where we surf each day. Students wear bright rashguards so they are easily
visible and identifiable with the group. The student to counselor ratio in
the water is a maximum of 5 students per counselor. Our surf instructors are
Red Cross certified in CPR and lifesaving techniques, very strong swimmers/surfers
and have many years of ocean experience. All beginners use high quality soft
boards and surf in shallow water. Each individual student is assigned to a
group of five students and to one counselor. That counselor is responsible
for supervising their group 24 hours per day for the duration of the camp.
Please call us with any concerns.
Every year we have many students between ages of 11 and 18 fly in for our
camps. A Walking On Water representative will be at the airport to pick up
each student and to drop them off after camp. Our representative will be waiting
for the students at the baggage claim and will check the student in as they
fly back home. Special travel requests are welcome. We recommend that you
do your best to fly into the John Wayne, Orange County Airport (SNA). If you
can't find a good flight into Orange County, then Los Angeles International
Airport (LAX) will be the next best airport. LAX might have cheaper flights
than Orange County Airport (SNA) but LAX is 65 miles from camp while SNA is
only 25 miles from camp. Arrival Flights to LAX must arrive between 1pm and
4pm on first day of camp (Monday). Arrival flights to SNA must arrive between
3pm and 6pm on first day of camp (Monday). Departing flights must depart LAX
between 1pm and 4pm on last day of camp (Friday). Departing flights must depart
from SNA between 1pm and 3pm on last day of camp (Friday). Please submit your
student's flight information to Walking On Water along with a photo of your
student before July 1st.
